Allotments 4 All

I am growing these (F1) for the first time this year, but the pigeons (little B.......) are trying to eat them. Can anyone tell me what is the best thing to cover them with? is it netting or wire-netting? and where can I get some from?

I use Wilkinson's fine, but cheap net... make sure it is high enough up to stop the birds resting on it and pushing it down onto the plant...  :-\

A lot of people use scaffolding netting (debris netting). Not sure how costs compare although you might be able to pick some up free.

Some old chicken wire over posts higher than the tops of the sprouts is what I am using this year.

Pigeons, magpies, jays and parakeets decimated the tops last season by standing on the debris netting, pushing it down, and then having a banquet

Mine are covered with enviromesh supported by hoops, so okay. But I did plant some swedes and covered them with wire tunnels which I thought would be okay. I hadn't blocked the ends off though - blinking pigeons were walking underneath the cages and along the tunnels to get to the swede tops. Didn't half give me a fright when they realised I was approaching and they panicked under the tunnels.
