Allotments 4 All

Hello everyone,

It's your favourite allotment newbie, who asks twenty questions a minute!

Latest is why are my peas turning yellow? The plants at the base are quite dry on the leaves, sort of crackly, and the yellowyness seems to be working its way up the plant. I have been feeding with cold tea. They are producing pods. What am I doing wrong with THIS crop?

Never ending, this.

Cold tea?  Only time I've heard of cold tea being used is on roses and acid loving plants like camellias, blueberries etc.  How often have you been using it, how dilute and why!?

I was told elsehwre on the forum it is a good feed. I had a load of lettuces in the same planter, and I was feeding them too.

Was using it every day, not diluted at all, just made up a big teapot of the stuff.

Guessing I've done it wrong. Again.

Lydsy, don't get disheartened. I was a bit cheesed off to see some of my beans going down the nick...but am now viewing this as a "learning year" and everything that works will be a plus :)

What is key is; don't let them dry out a little water often or a good soak every other day.

Sounds like your have been a bit thirsty at some time,

I never feed mine after the initial top dressing at planting out time!

Yes, I thin you're right, they are stressed because of heat and dryness. I am now watering them morning and evening as they are in a very exposed spot, lots of heat. Will they recover from being stressed? Poor little peas...

Thanks but if you had seen me in my PJ's this morning ranting about beepy rabbits and why are my beans getting speckled brown spots on leaves and look haff dread......you would have laughed  :)

Is there anyway you could give them a mulch to help retain the water? grass clippings etc
