As title really.

I pulled up all the garlic yesterday and wondered if some of the cloves can be planted now or dry them now and plant in Autumn?

Neil

P.s a search for garlic on here brings up to many posts ;D

Possibly a bit premature? What variety?

Whatever, store till the Autumn - or Spring - & only plant the really big ones for storing bulbs.

It's probably best to store them till around October. Plant the biggest cloves out of the lot, and eat the rest.

I select the biggest bulbs and hang them up in a cool dry place until required in October!

This year will be my first harvest of my own garlic.  I hope to use 3 bulbs for planting.  When is best to pull autumn planted garlic?  I looked at some cloves yesterday and they seemed a bit small.  (Solent Wight)

QuoteWhen is best to pull autumn planted garlic?

If I am not needing the ground for anything else I just leave them till the tops have died back.

Otherwise I pick at the end of June / early July.

This was my lifting dates in previous years;

5th July 1997
5th July 1999
30th June 2000
8th July 2002
26th June 2003
28th June 2004
11th June 2007 ( Very small bulbs this particular year)
30th June 2008

nb I never noted the dates in the missing years!

I planted some in March so when should I be able to lift it. I think it was Solent White.

They are Thermador and planted back in Sept/Oct

Lift them as soon as the stems start to flop over.
