Not having sent for strawberries by mail before, I was a bit disappointed when they arrived and wondered if this is normal? Roots look alright but each plant, of 25, has one or two leaves on each plant! I have planted them but they look leggy.

Too many leaves would just dry them out in the post, or when planted, if the roots are fine they'll be fine.  :)

Thank you for that Saddad. At least I know now I haven't wasted my money!

Plant them, you will be amazed how quickly new leaves appear, it's like magic! ;D

All planted now lets wait and see!  ::) Don't suppose I can expect fruit this year, now that would be a miracle! lol  ;D

It's not impossible... I've planted cold stored runners in July and had a crop the same year... (September) they revert to normal times in the second year...  :)

Mine came and were planted, but half of them didn't make it.

The others are growing strongly.

They went in in April, a bit late, but the soil may have had its problems - possibly the manure?

I really don't mind not having fruit this year. As long as they grow well and will produce fruit next year will suit me fine!

Do you cut runners off strawberry plants at this time of year? We have lots of developing fruit, but also lots of runners coming through. Want the fruit to ripen!

we do, puts the strength back into production  ;D

From experience!!

Give them a good soaking in a basin/bucket of water before planting out!

I did mine over night!

We always miss some runners. They be crafty little blinders and hide under he straw
