Well what can i say, we went away for a few days over the weekend, I checked on my veg, cabbages, Brussels etc on the friday, all were fine and seem to be doing great. well tuesday came and off to the plots i went and what a disappointment, I have got 4 frames that cover my veg made of timber and covered with chicken wire, I have used these for the last 3 years with no problems but this week, oh my, we have a lot of rabbits around this year and rats and somehow they got into 3 of my frames and totally destroyed my Brussels and all my cabbages, luckily I got there in time to stop all my cauli's going as well, is it too late to start fresh ones off or should I try and get some from garden centre. I have to say that since our plots have been taken over by the parish they just don't seem to care as long as they get their money each year. not a happy bunny. (but the ones on my plot are)  :'(

Uncle Joshua

Is your whole plot fenced off?

We had the same problem a few years back and everyone one our site had to put up fences and still this year I have had the odd rabbit on my plot. (no idea how they are getting in)

Its worth trying your local garden centre, sooner that than have no brassicas!!

Oh dear, littlepud.  :'(

Like Mick says, no brassicas is a terrible prospect.
You'll be able to sow again if you choose 'extra-early' varieties. Rudolph PSB, for instance, you can sow into June. And smaller cabbages (pointy-headed Greyhound is one) grow fast enough that you can sow in May and harvest in late September.
Would have thought it's also worth trying new sowings even of the standard varieties of really hardy things like brussels: you'll be harvesting a month or so later but can't imagine any more harm than that.
But garden centre stock sounds like a good idea too.

Anyone got a good recipe for rabbit pie?  ;)

i can honestly understand your disappointment as i have lost he best part of my brassicas for the same reason PESKY RABBITS >:( well someone on our site had shot two a week ago but there still around i can only guess we had alot of snow this year so maybe thee food supply was a little diminished more than normal and there foraging into anything I'm having to build on top of my raised beds a secure netted cage on each bed to cover lettuce and brassicas and so on
