Just off to the doctor to have my blood pressure checked.  Wish me luck and can already fill it going up, wish I was at the allotment.  I always feel well until I get in the doctors waiting room.

Good luck

Mine goes up when i see the machine!

Get them to come and take it at the allotment!

One is supposed to take it first thing - before the cup of tea etc!

Mine always gets done after a frantic Tesco shop.

My late husband's blood pressure was always sky high when the Doctor took it but perfectly OK when the Nurse took it.  Could never work that out, thought it should have been other way round!!! ;D Good Luck. Mine was fine 2 weeks ago so have now got a 2 month break.

Went to the GP with sciatica - she did a test which involved raising my leg in the air - which hurt like mad, and proved that I did indeed have sciatica.........and then she decided to check my BP which was then rather high !!!!!!!

As I am sitting having my blood pressure checked my GP always asks "shall we weigh you next?" - guaranteed to make the reading high! ::)

It's when he asks "how much do you drink" = he offered me counselling last time - and I only drink 3 glasses a night + a g&t on Sundays and a rum and ginger on Saturdays.

LOL Tulipa, this is true!  My doc told me that it's now a required practice to weigh patients at each appointment from now on - eeek!  I've got a BP reading and a dentist appointment on the same day this week - I already know my result  ;D

I have blood pressure sometimes... but normally run at under 120/80... standing up can be a real pain sometimes...  ;D

It was a bit high, but better now I am taking the tablets.  Hadn't been to the doctor for 5/6 years so expected a telling off as stopped the tablets 5 years ago without telling her.  Actually she was very nice, got a lecture about drinking wine and also smoking.  Came home with boxes of patches for giving up smoking.  Had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner and a few ciggies and took my blood pressure at home, and it had gone down.  Didn't tell her I haven't gone to hospital to have my blood test or will get put on the high chlorestol tablets.  Got to go back in a month and will try to cut down on the smoking, but the nurse said that as I have been smoking since 16 and am now 65 will find it very hard to give up even with the patches.  Said I could spend longer on 'Allotments 4 all' as the computer is upstairs and I don't smoke in the house.  Plucking up courage to go to the dentist and optician as also haven't had my regular checkups.

Blimey Borlotti maybe I shouldn't come and visit you on your lottie, we don't want your blood pressure going threw the roof.     ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  :-*
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Think the excitment would finish me off.

If it's a required practice my doctor hasn't heard about it. She has never weighed me, has just slightly increased my BP tablet dose.

My dentist checks my teeth and says "Great set of teeth, I don't want to see you for 12 months".

Just read on the internet that EVERYONE over the age of 55 should be taking blood pressure pills even if they don't need them. Puzzling or not?????  Have they got money to burn or get too many pills.

It sounds to me as if you are lucky to still be alive Borlotti having stopped taking the tablets 5 years ago!  As a smoker you have a much greater risk of having a stroke or heart problems and if you can't give up the ciggies at least get yourself checked out thoroughly.  A cholesterol test is essential and if you get put on medication at least you will lessen the risk of your arteries blocking up.  Statins for high cholesterol can also help prevent alzheimer's as well as decreasing your risk of a heart attack.

Try cutting down on your cigarettes to start with and then give yourself an allowance for each day.  It may take several months but you will find it a lot easier to quit when you are smoking less than 5 a day.

As for not going to the opticians, I hope that you do not drive!!    :o

You probably think I am being a bit of a bully but I am just thinking of your health, Borlotti and would like to think that in twenty years time you will still be digging your lottie and chatting to people on A4A.   :D

I did have my eyes tested when I was 60, but as I have never liked driving, the traffic in London is awful, gave up my car and got a bike for my birthday.  I had the various eye tests as found it hard to drive at night and judge distance if cars came too close.  Apparently my eyes were OK, just a nervous driver.  Don't even miss it now I have a free bus pass, bike or walk.  Yes, I know, the doctor was OK and said I could cut it down to 10 a day, could smoke one ciggie every two hours, and I have got the patches which I will read instructions and perhaps take on holiday with me.  I am now taking the tablets every morning and being good, and when I pluck up courage may go and do the blood test.  Do a lot of walking, tennis and eat the right food, not overweight, but as doctor said you may be OK now but in 2 or 3 years may have a heart attack or stroke or whatever.  Didn't realise all those years ago when started smoking how addictive it was, just thought it was fashionable or grown up.  Best not to start.  Gave it up when pregnant as felt so sick, told doctor but she laughed and said nothing she could do about that now, but one lady on the news is having a baby at 65.  Don't want to got down that route.

My other half had a stroke two years ago due to high blood pressure, nearly died Lasting results unfavourable.  Cannot read, write or hold a conversion.  Cannot drive.  Cannot add.  Have your blood pressure checked fold and keep that blood pressure under control.

Yes I heard this, this morning...so how are they going to make people fill the prescriptions? It's all very well writing them out but they're now over £7 each a month and they make you feel ill.

I'm still recovering from the damage caused by taking blood pressure pills for 6 months that it turned out I didn't need. My back muscles went into spasm and upset a few previously damaged joints giving me over two years of agony. About a week and a half ago (and after physiotherapy...plus months of expensive chiropractic treatment that didn't work) the continuous pain disappeared over night...I can't quite believe it and keep waiting for it to return. I still have some pain about it's about 75% reduced and it makes so much difference as I'm now more active and losing weight.

cleo

I take so many pills I rattle-but at least the doc only wants to see me every six months.

Shame in some ways as she is rather `fit`-could this explain my BP?
