On Sunday at 1 min to 3 in the afternoon my first grandchild was born.  ;D

He is a precious baby as Stacy/mum had lost 4 with miscarriage before him.

He was 7lbs 3 oz and born still in his amniotic sack , the midwife broke the sack after he was out.  This is extremely rare.
The birth in the pool was very gentle and natural and daughter was told NOT to push but just allow the baby to come which he did gently and easily.  Result, no tares = no stitches.  ;D

No drugs were used during the labour or birth just my second daughter (Lianne) and myself using reiki and keeping mum calm so she was in controll of the pains.

I lied to my Stacy over the course of the previous day saying, "No sweetie they are braxton hicks, dont worry" If she had known they were labour pains she may have panicked but this way she stayed calm and had a good nights sleep with 2 paracetomols.

The next morning the labour intensified but still told Stacy that they were braxton hicks and when these "BH's" were 3 mins apart we drove to the hospital. Stacy thought we were just going for a check up to see if she may have been in labour, she was 8 centemeters dilated!! YAY!! Alfie Jack was born 90 mins later.

Really all in all it was a text book labour and birth.

The really scary thing was she had a amniotic band in her placenta which in 20 years of practice both her midwives had not seen. All the midwives in the unit trooped in to see this as its so rare.
On researching this I think we have been very very lucky that Alfie is fit and well and has all his limbs.

congratulation to you all xxx

Mr Smith

Ishard,
Congratulations hope Mum is well and I  it thought it was thunder I could hear the other night, :)

thifasmom

congrates to your daughter and the whole family.

never heard of the amniotic band before and a little research shows this to be a big factor in miscarriages so maybe she's had these before hence her previous miscarriages.

either way I'm glad it all went well and he's fit and healthy, happy spoiling him my mum loves spoiling my two ;).

manicscousers

congratulations to you all, glad it all went well,  any chance of a pic  :)

Congratulations! The birth sounds fantastic, it sounds like you did so well supporting your daughter at home and throughout the birth.

I've only seen an amniotic band once in my midwifery career as well, unfortunately this was around a baby's mid forarm which had not developed properly as a consequence, so I'm glad it didn't cause Alfie any problems in his case.
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Have a wonderful time being Granny. We gave 4 granddaughters, 1 is 3 today, another 14 on Friday another is 3 in June  & an 11th birthday in August. I just don't know where 14 years have gone! They are of course all beautiful & a pure delight to spend time with. Congratulations to all the family, it sounded a wonderful experience for you all.

It`s when the great grandchildren start to come along that you really feel your age.

Many congratulations to everyone.

Ishard

Thank you all so much for your good wishes and I have passed them along to Alfies Mum and Dad  ;D

Alfie is bfeeding well and gaining weight as we speak. lol

By the way the reason I lied to Stacy (I'm not a mean Mum really) is that before I took early retirement I was a research nurse particularly interested in pain and its psychology and knew how the conscious mind affects how much pain we feel.
Lieing to Stacy about braxton hicks/labour worked cos after we got to the hospital and Stacy was told she was actually in labour then for the next 10 mins she panicked and couldn't controll the pain, until I pointed out she had been in labour for hours and had managed it very well.

My mum just paniced when i rang to tell her i was in labour with my first. I ended up having a casrean and and supporting my mum. Much as i love my mum the next one i left her at home with my oldest and it was much better. So you did right :)
