Hi guys,

I'm looking at my pepper plants and think they may need a bit of support they are in 4 inch pots and are all around 12-15inch's.

Also how do you grow them? In pots or in the ground? I have approx 20 Sweet california wonder ( they all germinated thats why so many)  ;D

So thinking they may need repotting or something!!!

Thanks lucy

Indoors or out? They prefer the former. Ours are always in Grow Bags indoors. If not that or the ground, then 10" pots. A single stake is usually suffficient, with a 'belt' of twine attached & around the plant.

Thanks well im not sure everything is doing so well and without a greenhouse is taking over our very small conservitory/sunroom.

My toms are doing fantastic moving them into bigger pots today too. So i might try all of the above plant some in the ground leave some in the sunroom and some in pots on the patio . Just to try and make a bit of space !!

Thanks lucy

Tim, if we get this promised hot summer with very high temperatures, I will try some peppers inside my lean to (although it does get very hot) and some in pots in a warm protected spot in the garden.   Also have a plastic mini greenhouse so will see which works best.  Didn't have much luck with them last year in the garden. Got some free with a gardening magazine and they are coming up on the kitchen window cill, probably need repotting but are still quite small. Can I feed them when they are bigger with Miraclegrow or similar.  Not too keen on eating hot peppers but would love a lovely healthy plant covered in red peppers. The ordinary peppers (not the hot ones) seem to be easier to grow and not need quite so much heat as they have come up sooner and are bigger.  Any advice appreciated.  Am taking all the seeds out of the mini greenhouse and putting them on a table in the garden whilst the weather is so glorious, and putting them back at night.  Some are doing well but some I must have watered too much and just have pots of mould growing.  Going away on 24 May so most things will have to be planted out before then, or rely on OH to water, which he usually forgets to do.

You could try supermarket flower 'bukkits'  ;D

Worked great for us last year, and you can bring them inside when frost threatens in the autumn

Should do even better if summer forcasts are right  8)

For the size they are,  you may want to support them with wooden kebab skewers if they are going to an interim pot rather than into their final position.

Borlotti - a lean-to should be fine. Be prepared to shade it well &, if needs be, take a pane out to give extra ventilation.

My peppers have always supported themselves, unlike tomatoes. But if I felt they needed support a simple cane and a bit of string would be enough for the stems.

I eventually plant them into those buckets the florist use. Drill holes in the bottom of the buckets.
