Hi All,

I planted out some cabbage plants on my allotment a few weeks ago. Practically all of the plants have taken and a visible growth can be seen.

Unfortunately a couple of the leaves on at least two but no more than four of the plants have gone a deep purple colour. What is of interest to me is that these plants are all on one side of the bed of plants I put in.

Can anyone offer any explanation for why this might have occurred?

Also on average how long do potato plants take to show after planting tubers? I have had mine in two weeks now and nothing, cant help thinking that the person next to me has had his in the same time and has a good showing.

As you can probably tell I am new to all of this so I apologise for any stupid questions :D

Quotethe plants have gone a deep purple colour.

They are cold..........a bit like how my nose goes when I go out on a cold & frosty morning!

:)

Im guessing then that it might be something to do with the wind and these plants bearing the brunt of the colder winds. Thanks for the help Tee Gee.

Hi MC my earlies have just shown their heads after four weeks, on the cabbage front when the plants first go in I seem to remember that the leaves do go off colour, but remember months and months down the line these leaves will be pulled off and replaced, just keep an eye on them and have a look at other lotties on your site to compare.  ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Your spuds should be fine. He may have been chitting them longer than yours, so had a better head start. Also is your earthing up higher than his.

I didnt earth them up as such, I planted the tubers in individual holes. Good point about the chitting process though. Mine weren't chitted for all that long before they were planted.
