I spotted this stuff on my the plum tree bark today, I think it might be mildew but I am not sure, Does any one have any suggestions.

I wiped it all off with a solution of water and milton. What should I have used

Thanks Baccyman, looks like wooly aphids to me... but my eyesight isn't the best...  ::)

thanks Saddad. It might be, it appeared very quickly and I dont know what wooley aphids look like, so may be. I hope they dont like milton as that is what they got today. I will keep a close eye on the tree concerns and see what turns up

saddad

They look like any other grey aphid but put out the white "wooly" stuff to protect themselves... if it comes back brush it off with a stiff ish brush and apply the milton solution into the cracks....  :)

thanks.  never seen aphids like that before. Cheers for the advice.

paint them with meths! (honestly) ;) it's what orchid growers use for wooly aphids, it's not wool, but a waterproof wax-like substance. ;)
You couldn't make it up!

thanks Tonynloke. I will try that. they are starting to come back,so the milton solution was not doing the trick.

telboy

Agree with Tony - meths should do the trick!
