Maybe this should be in Top Tips- read it in the Guardian magazine-

"Garden Organic experimented with sowing a single seed of a companion plant in the same module as the brassica, and just the presence of a birdsfoot trefoil, yellow trefoil or red clover seedling made the flies go right by, reducing problems by 48%"
