I have 3 types of potatoes laid out for chitting. I understand what I am looking for is purple shoots appearing, but one of the potato types is growing long, smooth, white shoots, and there is no sign yet of purple shoots anywhere.

Are these roots? Should I rub them off?

where have you got them, white sounds like not enough light   :)

Yup rub them off as they will be very weak and can snap off too easily cos they havent had enough light as Manic pointed out. ;D

Dont worry the spuds will grow more but keep them in the light.

BTW I only 'allow' 3 chits from one end or side to grow on and then they are nice and strong.
