Hi
I planted some shop bought PSB Cardinal in autumn and thanks to the ravishes of time and slugs about half of them have died. So on the up side I have some space to fill. Anyone got any suggestions for what would grow happily alongside the PSB?
thanks

according to companion planting guides the follow list do well with the brassicus family:-

Potatoes, celery, chamomile, sage, thyme, mint, Nasturtium, pennyroyal, rosemary, lavender, beets, Spinach, Chard, onions, Marigold, Carrot, Cucumber; aromatic plants are said to deter cabbage butterfly.

it is advised that they dislike dill, strawberries, tomatoes, and pole beans. but others may have had no problems combining these :-\, so they may get along just fine.

thanks for the link thifasmom - I tend to grow herbs in the garden - that way they are more accessible come dinner time  :D  I'm also a bit wary of mint as I know how rapant it can be!!

i have the majority of my herbs in a bed not far from my kitchen door for the same reason. i suppose you could interplant with another allium such as spring onions/ leeks as well.

thanks for the ideas - so its cabbage, alliums, or spinach. i think I'll also use some of the space for some annual flowers as well

Absolutely - if you don't ask your don't learn. I always find abbreviations painfull!
it's also very expensive in the shops and loses freshness quickly.

Supermarkets hate it for 2 very good reasons...

-It can't be mechanically harvested
-It's seasonal

Both of these are disgusting concepts to the supermarkets.

Thanks for the info Ollie. So that's why I only ever see it in my local veg shop then. Its usually fairly locally grown - Kent / Sussex. but hopefully this year it will be even more local to me  :D
