Allotments 4 All

I have the use of a corner of a friends field/garden and as I am completely without time to spare, I was wondering if I could expect to get some semblance of a crop if I was just to plant chitted seed spuds in the dug up soil.

I will have no time for furrows or anything, just to "lob them in"

I doubt that Ill be back there to hill them up for at least a few weeks/1.5months.

At the very least, should I thow in a bag of compost?

It is pretty much a pasture at the moment. Soil has wild grass growing on it.

I haven't tried it.

Another thing people do is put potatoes on the ground, hurl some compost/manure over them, and cover with tarpaulin. You do have to cut crossed slits in the tarpaulin over each potatoes for the leaves to push through.

Are you putting your spuds in now Killer? Its early, they shouldn't be planted out till March time.

The lazy bed system I have heard of, but not tried. You can plant through plastic or cardboard covered with manure.
