Hello folks, I'm on the lookout for the following odds.

Cyperus esculentus (Chuffa.)
Tropaeolum tuberosum (Mashua.)
Solenostemon rotundifolius ( Coleus potato.)
Canna edulis
Mirabilis expansa (Mauka.) This is not the common 4 O'clock Mirabilis but if you have any unusual colours let me know.
Ameranthus caudatus (Kiwicha.)

Also any old Dahlia that produces extra large tubers for an experiment.

What have I got for exchange? I've always got something of special interest tucked away somewhere.

Eristic, I have some mixed grain Amaranths from Real Seeds - and a packet of Love Lies Bleeding "Ribbons & Beads" - if either helps. Thought I had the Tropaeolum but sadly not. However I can let you have some Jicama and Fakir Parsley Root if you like? PM me.

Incidentally, have you grown Melothria Scabra, the Mexican Sour Gherkin aka Mouse Melon? I grow mine in pots. I was recently emptying these out (late again) and was surprised to see they have tuberous roots. I'm going to overwinter them and see how they do next year.

I think that you'll find that the Chufa are also known as 'Tiger nuts'. In whch case, get yourself down to the local fishing tackle shop, where you'll find plenty of them......
I also notice that a lot of sources use 'Canna edulis' and 'Canna indica' interchangeably. (Including B&T seeds), so they may well be one and the same thing. In which case, they're easy to obtain, although you will need to scarify the seeds to get them to germinate.

Bumping this up again.

Still looking for the following.

Cyperus esculentus (Chuffa. Tiger nuts)

Solenostemon rotundifolius ( Coleus potato.) Surely there is someone here from Ethiopia, Somalia or thereabouts who can help me out here.

Canna edulis This is not the same as C. indica but I would like one of them as well.

Mirabilis expansa (Mauka.) This is not the common 4 O'clock Mirabilis but if you have any unusual colours let me know.

Also any old Dahlia that produces extra large tubers for a grafting experiment.

I have about 10 Mirabius jalapa seeds spare if they are any use to you. I have no idea what they are like as they were a seed swap.

Thanks but I have plenty of M. jalapa at the moment. They are lovely flowering plants with edible roots but I'm trying to get hold of the true vegetable Mirabilis which has small flowers and large roots.

My wants list contains items that are far from run of the mill plants and not readily available which is why I'm bumping this thread up from time to time.

littlebabybird

did you get anything from this list Eristic?

lbb :)

These are still eluding me.

Cyperus esculentus (Chuffa. Tiger nuts)

Solenostemon rotundifolius ( Coleus potato.)

Canna edulis This is not the same as C. indica but I would like one of them as well.

Mirabilis expansa (Mauka.) This is not the common 4 O'clock Mirabilis but if you have any unusual colours let me know.

I've better things to do but there is not a lot that goes on of interest that my agents fail to notice and report back.
