according to the telly this morning Woolworth  are going to be trying to sell of most of there stock this weekend at very heavily discounted prices so it might be worth a look if you have not done your Christmas shopping yet.

I know its a sad state of affairs for the company and its employees but if there is bargains to be had then we must take the opportunity to get them.

Dont be getting too excited - I was in today and its only UP TO 50% off  -  most of it was only 10% off

But the store was busy !

I reckon the wait to be served would be over an hour in our little local one.

Just been to our local store picked up case for my electric drill laser level with tripod hand saw /rechargeable light/screwdriver set and a set of three wire brushes all for the grand sum of £7-50 great bargain shop assistant says there is still more bargains to come, only waited four minutes in the queue

I bought an advent calendar from Woollies, it wasn't much cop though.
All the windows were boarded up and there was nothing inside.

Went to Woolworths and the queue was very long, everyone was frantic and buying.  Sure there were some good bargains but got most of my presents in Boots, and other shops that all seem to have 20% off.  Might go back next week and have another look.  If you spend £20 in Tescos you get £4 off, I only spent £16 as had too much to carry.  Oh well Christmas will be cheap this year with all the bargains.

I consider Woolies to be a British institution but I never shop there. Why? Because their Edinburgh stores aren't convenient for me by car or bus.

WHen I lived in Glasgow I shopped there frequently because access was easy. Also their stuff was good, especially gardening stuff at that time. Woolies also had the best Xmas stuff.

I'd be really sorry to see the name and the concept disappear.

Amazin

Just got this from another website:

"Woolworths have confirmed that they will be having an up to 50% off sale starting 5 Dec. The sale will continue indefinitely and will feature a variety of discounts of up to 50% off, including up to 50% off toys, 30% off Christmas trees and decorations, 20% off personal gifts and 50% off all greetings cards, as well as reductions on entertainment products. This sale is in store only."
Lesson for life:

Grawrc   I cannot recall a Woolworths in Edinburgh!!!  I remember one was situated opposite the Caledonian (Balmoral) Hotel but its now a BurgerKing.  I think it is such a shame.  Most towns have a Woolies on its main High Street.  I often have a walk round Woolies in Galashiels or Berwick or Hawick.  Their choice of chocolates are easy to see but now it will be no more   :'( :'(  shame

They'll probably be replaced by yet more mobile phone shops.

Carol, there are several woolworths in edinburgh, there is one on st johns road, one along from crewe toll, and there is the big w store at the jewel near musselbugh
there was a big woolworths on lothian road as well - not sure if its still there
my great aunt used to work there, she would never buy her lightbulbs anywhere else and if she didnt get the 10,000 hours (or how ever long it was supposed to be) she took them back lol - and thats genuin lol
was in woolworths in livingston on monday and go £5.42 in pic-n-mix lol
spent another £50 tonight at big w in the big sale they have announced

Carol

Oops forgot about the one in Corstorphine - I used to go in there.  I only heard about the Big W. this week near the Fort.  Not been there - yet!!!

Thanks.
;D

I haven't been in a Woolies in years. I can't think of anything that they might sell that people won't be able to get elsewhere, probably at better quality.

tartonterro

but the beauty of woolies is you know you can get it all in one place

grawrc

....that's the wonder of Woolworths ... dumdeedum ..

Mr Smith

Walking past Woolies yesterday and looking at the vultures buying up the store was I thought only the beginning, Just wait when the dole queues start to get bigger in the new year and no one can afford to shop at Tesco's empty shelves no fish fingers left for the chav populatiuon to scoff on, what will they do? 'get a lotty' and grow em ;D
