Epic night, brand-new day 8)

Off to wearily sweep up leaves for a few hours....

And isn't it a beautiful day!

Rather curiously, there's very little on the BBC this morning about the Democratic policies and their implementation.  I'd been looking forward to a keen analysis of the introduction of free healthcare, spreading the wealth, closing the environmentally unfriendly oil wells, and so on.  But they seem to be obsessed with the man's complexion.

Bit ghey, if you ask me.  ;D

what a shame his old gran didn't live to see it

SamLouise

Good for him!

Melbourne, I had BBC News 24 on this morning before work and they were covering quite a lof of his policies (around 8.15am)

RT, I agree.

Yes a real shame his gran couldn't see his victory.  But can't you just see why so many have been seduced by this man?  He comes over as not being a big-cheesy-punch-the-air-and-whip'em-all-up sort of bloke.  I just watched his victory speech and am very impressed by his level voice and tone.  I didn't think it was a speech designed to whip people's emotions into a frenzy - just to reaffirm what he hopes to achieve for them and for them all to unite as a Nation to achieve their desired futures.  Very moving.  My only hope for the future is that he is not forever referred to as "Barak Obama, The First Black President of the United States of America"..........   Of course that is exactly what he is, but we all know that and he should now simply be addressed as Mr. President (or at least when he has been sworn in in January) as I am sure he was not voted in because he is black but because he is capable of being President.  Time will tell eh?

Historical day..............good luck to him :)

Can't fault the guy for what he's achieved, but if things go t*ts up, I'd have more faith in Hillary Clinton as a leader in a crisis.

BTW, who is his number two?  We've heard so much rubbish about Sarah Palin, but nothing ( that I've noticed) about her equivalent.
is it in the sale?

Feels a bit like 1997 just now...

we've had lots of black Presidents before, but only in the movies. Trouble is they always go on TV to say the world is doomed. the next time Obama goes on TV you half expect him to say we're going to be hit by an asteriod (Deep Impact), or whatever the thing was on 24 (2 black presidents in a row), can't remember what was up on The Fifth Element either (apart from the girl with funny hair and not many clothes), or the one nobody remembers - 2010 (war with Russia)

I was listening to Today on Radio 4 at that time.  There seemed to be a lot of "well, he's got a big job to do", "first hundred days are critical", "difficult economic situation", and so on, but nothing of substance.

Exactly what do people expect him to do?  We're not told.  I suppose that if you don't set expectations, then you won't be criticised for not meeting them.

Busby

Don't expect anything - except a load of hot air. As it's always been and always will be.

What can one person do against the might of the uncontrollable financial world...

All these people he's going to 'help', does he mean by reducing income tax by 20 cents?

posie

I'm so glad he won, I think it will be a breath of fresh air for everyone.  He has a lot to do and a hell of a lot of mess to sort out, but I hope he will be the man for the job. Well done that man.  :)
