Allotments 4 All

I left some tobacco plants growing in the greenhouse over the summer.  They have grown new leaves at the base of the stem; is it worth keeping them over winter (space is quite precious in the greenhouse)?  Might I get early tobacco plants next year or will they just take up space and come to nothing.  The greenhouse is unheated.

I have always treated tobacco plants as annuals. Or are the smoking tobacco plants? I do not know how the latter are grown in their native countries.

Im sure you will get an educated response very soon :D

They can be successfully overwintered but it is a trade off of the resources required to keep them alive against the resources  needed to grow fresh from seed.

Welcome from me too, Peggy.  If you are talking about the ornamental Nicotiana then I'd say they will take up space better used for something more tricky or precious.  They grow so easily and quickly from seed after all.
