Morning all,

I planted some autum carrots sat and bought a plastic sun tunnel which has vents at both ends.

seems to be keeping the heat in very well!! But when do i open the vents? how often? and do i leave the tunnel on all times except when i water?

Also planted my garlic and fruits on saturday, made my supports and had a good tidy in the garden. Loved getting my hands dirty just so relaxing spending time in the garden. Problem is nothing more i can do now so just twiddling my thumbs  :-\

Thanks lucy

one of our friends is sowing broad beans at home, with a view to planting them out at the plot, so's the mice don't get them, he's putting them in his cold greenhouse.
the carrots shouldn't need watering, unless we get a very dry winter  ::)  ;D
are you putting in some winter onions, we're putting our shallots in soon,
I know how you feel, hate twiddling my thumbs and housework is a last resort  ;D

manicscousers - shallots sound good might have to pop to the garden centre woho  ::) Don't think watering will be a problem then not with the weather were having lol. Problem is i'm not sure when to open the vents? Do i open them on a nice day and keep them closed on a cold day? i have been keeping them closed on the night as it gets quite cold and i'm not sure if that right  :-[

FLOSSY- Good idea will take some photos today if i get chance will be good to keep a photo diary.
I've planted gooseberry Autum bliss and All gold raspberrys aswell a blackberries.

My seed box is getting full cant wait till i can get to work lol.

Thanks lucy.

My winter carrots are in a container in my greenhouse.  The door gets opened for 5 minutes twice weekly when they get watered.

Personally I would leave them open all the time.

My view is the carrots you mention are bred for 'cooler' conditions; and OK they might mature quicker with protection but if they get too warm they might grow in what I call a 'soft' manner, meaning this might make them less tolerant to a really cold spell.

So my vote is for venting all the time.

Thanks for the advice  ;D
