I've saved some room for my two boys over the allotment and to get them into growing, i thought i get them to grow some large veg so they can have competitions agains each other. They have one bed about 2.4m x 1.5m and a triangle 2.4 x.2.6x ?m, each.

I have Mammoth onion seed so far,  on a thread on here is a list of large tomotoes so will try and get hold of them.

Pumpkins would be good but can they be trimmed so just one grows?
What else would be interesting for them to grow?

I can't help with the biggest, I'm afraid, but what about the tallest or fastest from sowing to eating?  Good contenders would be Sunflowers, obviously, but Tree Spinach takes up little space and grows very quickly too and the walking stick Cabbage is another which comes to mind.  For the quickest harvest I'd suggest Radish, Mustard, Cress and salad leaves.

Tallest would be good. What else apart from sunflowers grow tall?

Could put old drainpipes in the corner, fill with soil and do any one or more of the longest carrot/parsnip/leek.

Squashes are a must as long as they are planted in each son's respective bed, they could be trailed around the paths and they decide when to nip them ;D

If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

Thanks for the ideas.

I like the drainpipe idea.

What are the giant leeks (or leels, depending if you ave been drinking ;D ) called?
