I planted some summer and autumn fruiting raspberries last autumn so this has been their first year.  I've had a couple of berries but nothing to write home about.
Do I prune them in their first year or wait until the end of next season?

Many thanks

Hello Nicola. Yes, cut the canes that have fruited down to the ground after picking.
Flighty's plot,  http://flightplot.wordpress.com,  is my blog.

as you haven't had much fruit  then prune the autumn ones much later at the end of the year

Not disagreeing, but just to clarify: summer raspberries fruit on the previous year's cane growth whereas autumn raspberries fruit on the canes that grow during the year (primocanes).

So for the summer cut any that fruited or tried to fruit but leave the ones that didn't.

It helps if you tie back just the summer canes that fruit so that you know which ones to prune at the end of the season  :)
