Is it me - or do any home grown onions create more..well..flatcuence.. :-[..obvisously pickled ones have reputation, but what about normal "cooking" ones when used in stews, curries, soups etc....

perhapse they have not mellowed as some of the shop bought stuff which might be weeks old and the acids have had time to settle. Boots do these detox tablets which how can i put this gently dont stop you farting but at least you dont gas the room when you do :)

Can't say I've noticed any difference.....but doing shift work plays havoc with my digestive system anyway!

Charcoal tablets are very effective if excessive 'wind' is bothersome!
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Any particular variety for those who've noticed? I'm generally pretty susceptible! but have never noticed apart from with Yellow Shallots and possibly Senshyu Yellow. Have been fine with:

Autumn Giant
Onion - Swift
Electric Red
Red Shallots
Griselle Shallots

Kingfisher

i was about to start a thread like this yesterday!!

Harvested my onions the other week and made some lovely onion soup, and it made me fart for the next 12 hours constantly surronded by the smell of onions , to the same strengh of the onions i had been cooking!!!

debster

i have found that home grown onions are much stronger they really make me cry when i cut them,
chef hubby always says my home grown garlic is much stronger then shop bought stuff

Keef - I thought it was just our onions - made a pissaldiere (basically onion pizza with anchovies) from which there were some "interesting" side effects fro my OH. I decline to say what my side effects were on the basis of modesty.
Suffice to say that this particular dish will be planned with the same care as I apply to curries (no meetings or long journeys sharing a car the next day).  ::)

;D I have now been banned from eating onion soup !!! :-\

Home growns are eye wateringly, wind makingly stronger I find, so I don't use as many as I would when using shop boughts.Don't know if it makes much difference though.

Homey growny ones always seem to have "fenetre de breeze" effect.

Think these chaps must have been sampling some too - new extinction theory here  ;D
