Allotments 4 All

i have some winter carrots some in the groud some in buckets was my first time sowing them and ive got way too many close together so i have to thin them out can i get some advice on doing this  how thin do they need to be  at what spacings ect and what do i do to remove them

I have succeeded with carrots for the first time this year, grown in dustbins. I didn't thin mine at all, except that now they are big enough to pull I'm thinning by pulling the bigger ones and leaving the smaller ones to grow on. I'm sure that's not the way to do it, but it works for me!

If they are too close to allow to grow at all - ensure you thin in the evening and water afterwards to deter the carrotfly.  Or you can go along with a pair of scissors and cut the excess tops off at ground level,  again in the evening watering afterwards.

this works for me too.

loosen the ground well away from the roots with a trowel try to keep any blistering of all leaves down to a minimum as the dreaded fly loves the smell !!!
