I would like to grow some Spring cabbage on a piece of ground I have just cleared.  Can someone give me clear instructions as to how to do this please?   Which variety is best, and should I use a seed bed or modules.  When do I transplant and do they need protection from birds and slugs.  Would they benefit from cloches.  All advice/instructions welcome.   Thanks.

I will be sowing my spring cabbage next week, to be transplanted beginning - mid September.

I am trying "Cabbage Offenham 2 - Flower of Spring" from Mr Fothergill as it can be sown as late as August when many others say to be sown July.  First time with this variety. (I ordered 6 packets of seeds from the website - got free delivery.)

Many thanks for your reply.  I have bought the seeds you mentioned, so here goes.
