I agree, providing you ignore the manky old flowerpot I had to stand it on in order to get the close up.   ;D

They are lovely Georgie.

I once had a large collection of fuchsias but when I added some from a small nursery near Cheddar, they all developed rust.  No amount of spraying got rid of the rust so I destroyed them all.  This was 20 years ago so there may be something better to spray them with these days.

I love the Devon Dumpling.   ;D

Georgie

Hi Pauline.  Are you feeling better?  I hope you enjoy your visit to Wisley and if, when next time we meet you fancy trying Fuchsias again, give me a shout and I'll strike you some cuttings.  :)

Yes, I am feeling better thank you, Georgie and had a lovely day at Wisley.

Thanks for the offer of cuttings.  I would be very grateful for some next time we meet.

Can you explain what you have done with them then perhaps we'll be able to help.   :)

erm! Just put them in a tub! I take it from your question i should've done more?     :-[  :-[  :-[  :-[

Yes i'm feeling very embarassed!

Georgie

Noooo!  You didn't say what you had done and I wasn't implying any criticism, I just wondered if we might be able to help.  From what you say I take it you planted the plugs straight out into a large container?  If that is the case then I suspect they were a bit shocked by that.  Small plants like to be potted on into slightly larger pots, allowed to grow on until their roots fill the pot and so on.  Mine went from plugs to 3" pots and recently into 5" pots.  Only now am I thinking about moving them into into their final containers.  I hope this helps.

I certainly didn't take it as criticising! I am in ore of all you wonderful people!  They haven't died and look quite healthy they are just not growing, shall i move them into smaller pots? or is it too late for me to save them?

Georgie

Phew!  Well if they look healthy I'd leave them be.  Chances are this strange weather hasn't helped and providing they have decent compost, water and some warmth they will soon pick up I'm sure.  :)  And remember, we all have to start somewhere and we are all still learning.  :D

Thank you Georgie, everyone is so kind and patient on here! Besides I'm soooo thick skinned i probably wouldn't notice any criticising or alike lol!

Georgie

Ah, thick skin is a prerequisite for being a gardener - think of all those thistles etc you need to pull out!  ;)

jordsbabe

Got to agree with you there! Also a placid nature i think will help, especially when you have just sown some seeds and you hear a little voice saying look mummy i've made you a pie!!!!!   :o

Georgie

EEK!  Time to get him sowing his own seeds I reckon.  Something which grows fast - a few grass seeds in soil in an old stocking fashioned to make a face, radishes, nasturtiums etc should keep him diverted.  :D

G x

PS I can supply the seeds if you don't have them.
