I bought a chocoalte mint plant (smells like After Eights!) at Helmsley walled garden yesterday. It looks very healthy but when I took it out of the pot to plant it out this morning, I found a kind of white powder all round the root ball and on the inside of the pot. Any ideas? Don't want to put it in my herb bed if it might infect other plants.

That's a new one on me.  Is the water very hard in the area?  If so it could be calcium deposit.  The only other thing I can think of is bonemeal.   ???

If the plant looks healthy I'd isolate it in a pot for now and keep an eye on it.  I'd also ring the seller and see if they can throw any light on it.

Personally I grow mint in a container anyway, bit invasive for me.

Also doubt it is mould.
