does anyone know what sort this is and does it need re-potting a bit deeper past the twiggy rooty bits :-X

ceres

Looks like an umbrella palm.  Wouldn't think those roots should be exposed like that.

Andy H

Yeah its amazing it survived out doors like that in a pot over winter

I know they are pretty hardy, but mine died in its first year outside (over winter)

Looks like its pushing itself out of its pot now Andy
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

I think that is Chamaerops humilis. The roots have probably pushed the plant up out of the pot. Re-pot to the top of the roots in a much bigger pot and it will be fine.

Andy H

I wondered if that was right but you have convinced me. I will buy a bigger pot at the weekend.

My doubts were with the fact that it survived the winter outdoors like that and I saw some palms standing on roots like that at Eden. But I will re-pot now. Thanks.

Andy

Tee Gee

I think it is a Chusan palm but I might be mistaken.

ACE

If you are leaving it out all winter, why is it in a pot? It would much prefer to be free in the ground.

Baaaaaaaa

Trachycarpus fortunei ?
Maximus, Procerus, Vegetus
