I am have now earthed up the other rows and put in another 2 rows.

OMG my back aches. Used mattock to loosen up soil and then heaped it over plants.

when i earth up i cover them completely they soon find the surface again, I use a mattock, i did buy a wolf ridger but find it does not ridge them high  enough.
All good things come to those who wait!

when planting smaller early potatoes I always dig a 6" trench  then dig a small 6" hole in the bottom of the trench to take the potato and a bit of muck/food/confrey etc and cover Then instead of having to earth up I have the easier job of just raking in the trench sides + you know you have enough soil.

With main crops I tend to remove a lot of the soil and store in old dustbins and poor this ontop of the spuds when I run out of eathring up soil.

I cover completely never done me any harm and they cant get blight when underground!
