I have purple podded peas (no variety name) pt says they grow to 5 feet
two questions
how many do I plant at any one time?

The best way to support them?? can I grow up a cane wigwam, like runner beans ?

hiya, lolabelle, we're growing our purple podded alongside our runners and yellow podded and barlottis, I used wigwams last year for them all and they were fine  :)
if you're sowing them direct in the ground, sow a couple at each cane, one of ours says 6 per cane but, personally, I think that's too many  ;D

Thanks manicscousers, lovely to hear from someone living in my Dads home town of Wigan
I have Borotti beans from but they are a dwarf type , did you eat fresh or dry or indeed freeze?? ::)

all of them, dried for soups and stuff, froze so we didn't have to remember to soak them and fresh as they were growing..we're still eating them  ;D
Wigan, been here for 35 years, can't escape  ;D

Mine got drowned last year but I'm trying again. i'm growing them on wigwams. As for how many to plant, that depends on how much space you want to give them. I got two packets of 50 seeds each, which should make two wigwans very comfortably.

I grew some in my back garden in 2006 and they only got to 3-4 foot in height, so when I tried them down the allotment last year I sowed a short row thinking they would do the same......mistake! They grew to over 6 feet, I was forever propping them up with taller sticks! This year, wigwam, learned my lesson! Haven't had very good germination from my self saved seeds this year though, luckily had a few T. Etty seeds left which have all germinated well. ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴
