Hi all,

I've moved to Shotley Gate recently and am looking for an allotment in the area.

Anyone got any idea where I should look or who I should contact.

Thanks,
Vince

Hi Vince

Nice to meet you - please excuse my ignorance but where is Shotley Gate?

Hi Pixie, Shotley Gate is in Suffolk - directly over the harbour from Harwich:

It's a nice quiet little place but my initial investigations have not yet found any allotments. I only hope I'm not looking hard enough.

Is there perhaps some central register of allotment societies that I can find anywhere?

Hi Vince ;) are you anywhere near Ipswich if so click this...http://www.ipswich.gov.uk/services/allotments/default.htm
for some reason it wont link try copy pasting it.

Or is Colchester nearer? ...try this link...http://www.colchester.gov.uk/housing_det.asp?id=1672&sec_id=451

Thanks for the suggestions. Ipswich is about 10 miles away and Colchester is about 35 miles away. Not too far but further than I'd want to ravel to an allotment if I can avoid it.

Still, I doubt I'll find any closer to me than that.

Pixie

Do you have parish or a local council you could try?

Well, I finally found a person to contact via:

It seems there's several sites near me. Now I just need to sit on the waiting list for an unknown period of time I guess.

Thanks again for the suggestions

Vince, they ought to be able to tell you roughly what the waiting time is. If they haven't a clue then there's probably plots going uncultivated that are being left as long as rent is paid. Pester, pester, pester. I spoke to one person who managed to jump a three year waiting list by just such an approach.
For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Vince when I go back to work I'll wave at you from under the cranes @ Felixstowe...

And I'll jump up and down and holler from Woodbridge...! ;D Good luck, hope the wait isn't too long. Lottie
