Allotments 4 All

We are having a veg plot this year. I have seen a collection of brassicas, 50 plants. 10 of each caulis, broccoli, sprouts & 2 different cabbages. Our plot is only 21' x 9' approx. a third will be for brassicas. Do you think there will be enough room. They are on Mr Fothergills site with 25% off.

hiya, granny, I know sprouts need approx 18" or 24" between, we do ours 18" as we have deep beds, the same with the broccoli, depends on the cabbage and cauli size, I suppose you could underplant with various things, it'd be a bit too many for us, we'd have to split with a mate  :)

I plant 8 Brassicas in an 8x4 bed.

You have 189 square feet, and 48 plants in my beds would occupy 6 beds which is 192 square feet.

However, 48 Brassicas is a hell of a lot of greens and even if you plant them close together they will use most of your land.

Like manics said, brassicas need 18-24" spacing.  On your one third plot, you'd only get around 25 plants at 18" spacing, less at 24" spacing.  Fewer plants or more space?

Grow them from seed and keep the strongest few of each variety. 50 is too many.
