possible bean seed swap?

Jeannine asked for a volunteer, so lets see if we can make this happen :)

As per the tomato swap, please read these (suggested) instructions before signing up.  Feel free to comment and offer improvements as I've never done a swap like this before.

Seeds to be in packets of 10, clearly labelled with relevant information, ie:
name of bean
type (dwarf or climbing)
source (home saved or store bought)
date of birth
your A4A username (just so if I drop the lot I know who sent what)

Seeds must be sent to me in a bubble wrap envelope.  Also enclose a label with your name and address on (just written on a piece of paper will be fine) AND loose stamps to at least the same amount you used to send your beans to me.  I'll use these and recycle your envelope to return the new beans to you.

Send as many packets as you like, you'll get the same number back.

I also suggest:

- no spares, as this could tip the postage over what you sent
OR
- send an extra stamp or two incase needed and I'll return these if not used
(not sure which way is best yet)

- don't send the most common beans – my nightmare would be everyone sending in Scarlet runners!
- not too many multiples of any one variety
- must be recognised beans ie not "the one with no name that Uncle Henry's been growing for 45 years" UNLESS it is exceptional or unusual in some way and you have to tell us
- as per the tomato swap it will be completely pot luck ie not possible to do requests for specific beans
- do we want all types of beans?  What about broad beans or soya beans?
- happy to include people overseas if we can find a way round the postage and the beans will get through customs okay each way (I know nothing about this)

Feel free to add any thoughts or comments.

And sign up on this thread if you're interested. Its not a firm commitment – just trying to guage numbers and get ideas to see if we can make this happen.

Over to you!

Lisa :)

can i play please
my vote would be against broad and soya beans (coz they are disgusting ) but i would go along with what everyone else wants

Glad I am not the only one who thinks that broadies are the Devil's own.
I have the Italian beans too so that might help, so yes ,if going ahead.
It is a brilliantly quick method of ptp.

Count us in too please  ;D ,  oh and broadies are fine  :P

CityChick

Okay, I've think we've got about 10-11 people interested so far in just a few days, so its looking hopeful :)

I suggest we leave it a bit longer to see if anyone else is interested, as if there are more participants there should be more varieties to go around.

Suzanne

I have packed up some seed already.  ;D

CityChick

Me too! And a bean swap was a very good excuse to pop in the HDRA yesterday as I was passing to see what been seeds they had ::) ;D

Hi, any room left for another bean fan?? sarah.

CityChick

Ooo yes, lots of room left for anyone else who wants to join.  As with Jeannine's tomato seed swap the more the merrier, as that should mean there are more varieties to go around.
