Polytunnel question!

Would any of you have ideas on this!!

I was thinking of making drainage holes in the bit of plastic which is covered by earth in the "1 foot trench" with a fork so that some water filters through into the polytunnel.

Is this mad?  I can't see that it will weaken the polythene much if the holes are 6inches or so down.  The water collects in this trench as the polythene goes down the side of the polytunnel goes across the bottom of the trench and then comes back up to earth level where I have trimmed the plastic. So it is like a collection point for a lot of rainfall off the polytunnel.

Any points of view will be appreciated.

:o

Before I do it can anyone tell me if I am being stupid please!  Alternatively it will make an excellent place to put my watercress seed as it is so boggy!

I bought a second hand polytunnel years ago, complete with instructions, and they recommended exactly what you suggest.

I quite like the moated effect... and enough water always seems to get in !

Thanks all of you!

I have pronged the tunnel all along the length so will wait and see how well that works.  It will certainly save a fair bit of watering - I hope!

I really can't wait to get started though!

Roll on mid February!
