Been staying with sister in law (Chislehurst) I asked her what this plant was, she didn't know, said my daughter bought it for her years ago.

does look like ivy. i think fatsia has bigger leaves. my ivy is in flower at the moment and the bees buzz round it like mad

lorna

The leaves certainly look like Ivy but we didn't think it was. Doesn't seem to grow like my various Ivy's. Thanks for answering.

The leaves look like the ones you get on the so called Tree ivies, but the flowers are not really correct for those either.  A close up of the flowers might hwlp.

OK Eric will take another pic but will have to wait for son to download from camera for me. (I know,  it is about time I learnt how to do it :))

You made me feel SO much better lorna, I cant download them either ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

lorna

Star I have never tried. The late husband used to say "Listen to John (son) and you will learn!! Huh he didn't know how to turn PC on. John always said "I am  here so often no need for Mum to learn everything" Once they are in my photo file I can then deal with them. (Hope he comes tomorrow to download the pics on camera :)

At last son has found time to download pics for me. Are these pics any clearer?
Any ideas? Many thanks for looking.

I do not think ivy leaves come off the stem with a stalk like that, so I will now go with the fatsia, although they seem very small and dark.

lorna

Thanks Ace. Georgie mentioned fatsia. I will google and see if it looks like it.

Georgie

I only think it may be Fatsia if you posted a picture of a young leaf, Lorna.  The older leaves are huge and palmate (is that the word I'm looking for?)

Georgie I have had a google. fatsia japonica, found one showing dark green leaf, but I think I also read that the leaf has 8 points (well that's not the right word :)). Going to have another read in the morning. That photo was taken in October and the plant is several years old. It is growing straight up and is about 6ft tall.

Georgie

Lorna.  I was at Capel Manor today and I think I spotted your plant.  It's Fatshedera Lizei, a cross between Fatsia and Ivy.  Here's a link:

Many thanks Georgie. Certainly looks like the leaf. Going to forward to sister-in-law for her to check her plant again.
