Lucky me! I was given six very big, beautiful, unsmoked gammon steaks. The first one I just brushed with honey and grilled, the second was cut into strips and made a lovely stir-fry. I've frozen the rest - any ideas what I can do with them, please?

I'll send you my address!!! ;D ;D ;D

Only joking, you cold cube them and dip them in batter, make a sweet sour sauce with rice......nice ;)

As for the rest, dunno really, maybe google a recipe for beef wellington and adapt it?
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

i like mine grilled with a dollop of apple sauce and cheese on the top browned nicely.
or cut them up and make some hawaiian kebabs peppers, cherry tomatoes pineapple etc what ever you like then grill or oven cook ooh marinade in something nice first maybe honey based

One that I keep coming back to is an idea from Nigel Slater: put your gammon (or bacon chop or the end from a roll of bacon) into the nearest thing you've got to a frying pan with a lid, add some shredded white cabbage, and onion if you like, and cook slowly, covered for about half an  hour. No liquid, maybe a touch of oil to start it off but it doesn't really matter. I guess it'll look a bit less appetising if your gammon isn't dry cured, as all the nitrites run out, but it shouldn't affect the flavour.

Geoff.
You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can't upset them all at once either.

Grandma

Some really tasty ideas there  :P !

Thanks everyone.

Hi

You can dice it and 1/2 you can use to make a tastie carbonara and the other 1/2 boeuf bourguignon

Grandma

Thanks very much, cam  :) I love a carbonara - can't imagine why I didn't think of it!

Not quite sure about boeuf bourguignon though! Does it work with gammon?

not very sophisticated I know, but how about gammon steak and chips with a fried egg and lashings of HP sauce?!? ;D

Grandma

So glad you cleared that one up star!  ;) ;) ;)

Yup - best way of all, nl - with a grilled tomato!  :)

One of our old favourites is to marinade the steaks in a mixture of tinned pineapple juice, soft brown sugar and mustard powder.  Griddle the steaks, and serve with pineapple rings. duchess potatoes and sweetcorn.  Yummy++

No but if you replaced the lardons with the gammon near the end it would be nice :)
