Ash logs wet or ash logs dry
Buy up all that come your way

as the rhyme goes...I guess your pile would be  c £20 round these parts.

The more bits of information that come out about your life Tim make me more and more jealous.
Used to fly spitfires if I recall.
Big successful garden.
Wood burning stove / real fire
Grown up kids who send the grandkids over for the summer (did they do the logs:-)

very envious

Now i know why you grow so many tom's .....you swap them for wood. ;)

tin can

One cubic metre of mixed wood generally costs about  £30-40 - if that's any help??

Nice bit of wood there- Ash is one of the best!!!

Really? Whoever wrote that needs to go back to rhyme school!   ;)

Now, if I were writing it, I'd say:

Ash logs dry or Ash logs wet,
Buy them every chance you get.

Tim you probably swapped them for some garden produce  ;D

Oak logs will warm you well.
That are old and dry;
Logs of pine will sweetly smell
But sparks will fly.
Birch-logs will burn too fast,
Chestnuts scarce at all;
Hawthorne-logs are good to last
Cut them in the fall.

Holly-logs will burn like wax,
You may burn them green
Elm-logs like to smouldering flax,
No flame to be seen.

Beech-logs for winter time,
Yew logs as well,
Green elder logs are a crime
for any man to sell.

Pear-logs and apple-logs,
They will scent your room,
Cherry-Logs across the dogs
Smell like flower of broom.

Ash-logs, smooth and gray,
Burn them green and old,
Buy up all that come your way
They're worth their weight in gold.

Round here, a 1 cubic metre box of cut firewood goes for £50.

Great replies - thank you all!

No - no swap - I have to pay.
No - they were from 'our chap' who does the heavy work once a week.
Jealousy? You want to feed 12 every other week?
The Saying? Was just going to look that up! I think there are several versions?
Estimates? Great help. I'll let you know the cost.

PS It is 2 year seasoned.
