What is the best type of sand to keep my root veg in please? I was just going to buy whatever comes to hand, but my husband reckons there are lots of different types of sand??
Also, the books say wet sand - how wet? and do I need to keep watering it over the winter to keep my carrots crisp?

Damp, not squidgy. Leave a couple of inches of stem.

No expert here, but sharp or play sands are least messy?

Much prefer Peat Substitute or Moorland Gold. Lighter, & reusable elsewhere.

Ahh -  I have used peat up to now, but I found that the carrots just withered up, and I was told sand would be better.  So what have I been doing wrong - do you have to keep it damp?

Again, NOT the expert, but peat is a funny thing. For instance, a growbag needs a gallon of water to be moist. And then cool & dark, but not hermetically sealed. And don't expect to keep things for ever
