Allotments 4 All

Well after much consideration I have decided to dig up my old strawbs and put in some new ones, less of them this time and further apart. A question or two for you again I am afraid, in order to still get a crop next year will I have to plant them this Autumn? T&M (who Im not over fond of because of the condascending way they have treated me this year) have theirs on order in packs of 12, I do not want that many I was thinking of probably half that, which are the nicest fruits, not too worried when they fruit and who are a good supplier for just that many?

We obtained new strawberry plants this year from our local garden centre, in trays of 4 plants. Will soon be potting up several more from runners, ready to start a bed up at the plot, as those we have are in the garden for now. The fruit we got this year was gorgeous BTW.

do you know which ones you have already that the fruit were so good on please quizzical

Deb P has grown one called ?Marshmellow? or something like that from Marshalls which she raves about. We have just dug out our bed.. had been using our own runners for about 15 yrs and must have picked up a virus or two because the results this year were naff...
Have a lottie holder who grows them in old tyres.. two deep filled with soil/compost.. was very sceptical until I saw them... membrane underneath and woodchips around tyres on membrane. Says gets an earlier crop as they absorb heat in the sun and discourages slugs because of the heat...

ive heard of them i have no idea what ours are they are now in their third year and have been dreadful so gonna cut my losses. will have a look on the marshalls sight dont think having too many too close helped either cos they never seemed able to dry out they were grown through that weed proof sheeting you can get, tyres now thats an interesting idea

and the height improves drainage... he got 5 or 6 plants in each set of tyres..

we grow marshmello, have done for the last 8 years, runners from erics..huge, tasty fruit...we bought honeyeye this year, 6 plants for 3.00 from aldi...not impressed by the flavour , I think we've been spoiled  ;D

Ive potted up 10 strawberry runners into pots for next year,do i need to over winter them in the greenhouse?  I will be groeing them in a large (I MEAN LARGE) pot instead of the garden.
