Hello

my Atlantic Giant pumpkin has finally started to set some fruit. I was going to remove all but one, to get a huge one. Is it too late to do this now, as the biggest is only slightly larger than a tennis ball, or would I be better just leaving them all on so I get several smaller ones to store ?

Are they a nice tasting pumpkin, or just good for the size?

Thanks

Not the greatest tasting pumpkin but fine for things like leek and potato soup...
I'd leave them all on, unless you actually want a "Giant" as soom will fail until they get to football size...
::)

Hot_Potato

maybe a silly question but you say....'fine for things like making Leek & Potato Soup'............so is the pumpkin added as well or used in place of leeks or potatoes ???   (wouldn't be leek & potato then would it?)

saddad

Sorry... Pumpkin, Leek and Potato soup... with, or without the bacon if you're veggie..

Unless you want to set up home in it, leave at least two pref. three fruit in case one gets damaged.
;D

carolinej

Quotenless you want to set up home in it,

Oooh, now there's an idea ;D Add a few wheels, cut in a window or 2 and, voila, a free caravan ;D ;D ;D ;D

Do you really think it will get that big before the first frosts, as it isnt even a football now?

They grow very quickly once they get the idea... certainly "space hopper" dimensions are still possible!

I grow Atlantic Giant and use them to make pumpkin soup...i think it makes delicious soup!

So if I let 1 pumpkin grow huge, will I end up with the same amount of flesh as leaving lots on? Which do you think will be most productive?

Sory for all the questions :-[ First time squash grower ;D

I like pumpkin soup as well-and the hollowed out pumpkin makes a great tureen

saddad

I'd go for several reasonable sized ones unless you are trying to win a "largest" Pumpkin comp....
Yes it makes good soup... !
;D

Ok then, I'll let it do its own thing and see what I end up with. I love the idea of using the shell as a bowl. I have to make pumpkin soup for 50 ladies at our church ladies day in October, so I think I will use that idea.

Here's hoping for a good crop.
