Went to southern britanny for our hols last week and the house we rented had a HUGE garden!  At the very bottom of the garden, scrambling through an apple tree was a kiwi vine covered in baby kiwi fruits!  Thought I would post a piccy so those of us growing them know what we are looking for....in about 100 years when they are mature enough to set fruit!  :-\ ;D

Hi ej,

Lovely picture - I live in hope.  Last year purchased a kiwi spent the winter in a small pot and sprouted in the spring.  I put it in the ground next to my greenhouse in April - It is still exactly the same size as when I put it in the ground - hasn't even grown 1 leaf - it looks healthy but obviously it isn't going to grow very fast - if it starts growing I will let you know.  Has anyone else been successful with Kiwi if so would love to see some pics.

Well my mum has had one in her garden for quite a few years now, and every year she fears it will completely take over her small patch of land!  I really is vigourous and twines its way along her entire fence, over the neighbours garage and through all of her plants.  I think it is a case of once it is established, there is no stopping it.  Only thing is......not a single fuit, not one, not a nibble, not a chance!  >:(

Hi ej,

Perhaps when established mine will be the same - I live in hope.  When I purchased mine it did say self pollinating on the label - perhaps there is more than one variety - like apple trees.  Maybe your mums needs a companion to fruit! There must be someone out there who can advise?

Thing is Jal, she did buy a boy and a girlie plant all that time ago.....but it is hard to tell now if there are still 2 plants there as they are soooooooo big and jungle-liscious!  As far as I could make out, the kiwi vine in the french garden was all alone, so a self pollinating one I assume.
