The Toot is having a "flower fairy" party. I've been looking for party bag gifts and am having trouble finding things that are garden themed and unisex.  Don't want loads of plastic rubbish if you know what I mean.  ;)  :)

There are only four girls coming to her party but SEVEN boys lol!  I found some tiny bottles of fairy dust in little organza bags which I thought would be great in all the bags cos even little boys need a bit of magic don't they, but they are £3:99 each. Thats a way too steep!

How do you make fairy dust  :D ?   Do I need to get down to hobbycraft ??  ;D

So far I've only got some jumping frogs.   :D Anyone seen any notebooks or anything with flowers or bugs on them? Not too girly. Give me a nod in the right direction if you do come across any pleeeeeaase!

Thankyou !

Heldi

Found this link to an online shop selling fairy dust, just looks like glitter in a bottle so it seems hobbycraft may be your best bet.

My niece is huge on fairies but yes anything I've ever bought her is either expensive or plastic, sorry.  You don't happen to have a garden full of Dragonflys do you?  They look like fairies to me.

Hi Heldi

I would make fairy dust from that body glitter stuff. Don't know what you'd put it in though.
Poundland and all it's variants do nice little notebooks - I got 6 at the weekend ( 2 packs of 3) they are yellow, blue, pink, green with bugs on and I got pencils to match. ( You wouldn't believe it if you knew me but they are for stocking fillers! This is the most organised I have ever been!)
It is tough filling party bags as it's all tat really. Balloons always go down well and obviously nice and cheap. Not garden themed though are they? Hmm.
Ooh, how about those windmill things? They will be bit tall for the bag but hey, they'll only get taken straight out. You can get them with bugs on the top and the wings spin.
And bubbles, coz I love 'em.

Happy Birthday Toot

I loves bubbles too Em! ;D

Heldi, how about a packet of seeds each? Someone somewhere must be selling off sunflowers cheap!  (woolies, lidls??)  Maybe some plant labels too?(get em whilst they are young I say!)

You could always make them some pet rocks! ;D ;D  Or some of those things that grow grass hair// (You know, sprinkle grass seed in a tights leg, top up with sawdust, tie a knot, then decorate the outside with eyes nose etc., they then wet them and put in a saucer to grow hair!)

They all used to get one of those small boxes of raisins in them too as I was anti sweets when they were young.

When my girls were little I used to get them to decorate brown paper sandwich bags, they used to enjoy doing that, and toot could glue on leaves etc!

Expanding on Doris's idea about seeds, you could give them each a little terracotta pot to decorate as party game. Although girls like that sort of thing much more than boys, who just like to run around bumping into each other and slide across the floor on their knees. Don't change do they?

You can see the knee sliding demonstrated here:

This just has me crying with laughter.  ;D

Wouldn't mind some of that fairy dust myself !  Thanks Astro. Could split those little packs up I guess.

I've done all the plastic things before with my son,had loads coming into the house from parties he's been to and I'm fed up with them!

DP I wondered about seeds.  Not too sure about some of the guest's parents being  willing to help them sow them though.  :(   Otherwise thats all they'd get along with the goody bag filled with compost lol!

I really LOVE pet rocks lol. What a brill idea!

I love bubbles too.  ;D
Emmy thanks for the tip off about poundland. Windmill...brilliant again!  You know when you are not looking, ladybirds and various garden critters are everywhere lol!

Her party is at a soft play area..I'm not brave enough to have all her little pals here at the house.  It's what she asked for. We simply take the goody bags and a cake and let the kids run around like mad things.

Know what you mean about little boys sliding on their knees. My son is 9 now but when he started school he went through 5 pairs of school trousers in a fortnight. Big holes in the knees. Oh but he wasn't sliding,it was all the others !

Peter Kay has it spot on  ;D  ;D

At the risk of sounding a bit grumpy on the whole subject of party bags...........mine are 14 and 9 - so a fair few bags have been given and received.

You are right, its all tat, so now - for the 9 year old, his friends get a themed bag with a piece of cake and a balloon - those really big punch balloons in Poundland are always a hit and if I'm feeling really generous a pencil.

I'm just a bit fed up with the grasping and one upmanship with childrens parties.

That said the big kid in me sometimes takes over - how about putting plastic lizards and dinosaurs in the boy's party bags - they ate the fairies :o :o  but I have to say that if mine came home from a party with a tube of glitter aka fairy dust, I would NOT BE HAPPY - its a right **** to get out of the carpet >:(

Have fun

The old glitter does end up everywhere but my most despised thing in a party bag are those bloody tooter things. Why after I have had to sit and listen to screaming kids for 2 hours must the parent send me away to be tormented for the rest of the day? Why? I took my child to their childs party. I bought a nice little prezzie - not too messy, not too annoying, not too crap. So why do that to me?
Evil.

Soft play areas are the future Heldi, kids in house just mayhem. I hire a church hall ( about £5 an hour) my mate does a diddy disco as he has all the kit and lights, his g/f is ex redcoat so always invite her and give her a glass of wine or two. That sorts the entertainment out.
Now Maya is getting older she would rather have a day out and sleepover with her bestest little friend. Much more civilised.  ;D

Can also make Fairy Dust from Radox bath crystals - just add a little glitter and put them in your own little organza bags with apretty ribbon - we did this one Christmas for a charity to sell as "Reindeer Magic Dust"
