New Plot

Hi to you all.

Please can you advise me what not to compost.  I know about the cooked, bones, perennial weeds etc and have composted at home for years.  Things I am not sure about as have heard various opinions are potato leaves, rhubarb (discussed recently I know) etc.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I always burn spud leaves & remains. Rhubarb leaves can be used to make liquid pest deterrant for brassicas apparently.

welcome, newplot, we throw everything, including rhubarb leaves and potato haulms on the heap, it's a hot one so, hopefully, all the nasties are gotten rid of..the only stuff we don't compost is meat, fish and stuff like that, we even compost the vacuum bag contents and dog hair  ;D

and always mix 50 / 50 with shredded paper especially when using grass cuttings
