I grow them , good as beetroot but better as a leaf crop in salad or lightly steamed
and lashings of butter.

They are not on the national list any more....I got some via the heritage seed library. Might be worth keeping some seed?
Make the most of today, because you'll never have it back again.

I think you can still buy them over here eg at Moles, Tuckers seeds, Nickys Nursery, Thomas Etty....

Very pretty to grow (darker leaves than other beetroot) and thought leaves used more than root...

Well that is all very interesting, does anyone want a pinch or two if it is falling off the map. XX Jeannine

Supersprout sent me a packet of these I think......I sowed them Easter weekend on the plot.  Good to know they are more for the leaves that the root as I love beet leaves!

Jeannine I'd love a few seeds if you can spare them. I received some in a swap last year but they didn't germinate.  :'(

Hello Jeannine

I would love a pinch if you still have some.  I am a beetroot fanatic and have already put in about three different kinds.  Have never eaten the leaves though - how would you cook them besides the one example given?? I use to eat beetroot on my sandwiches when I was still at school.   ;D ;D

If you can't be a good example -- then you'll just have to be a horrible warning....

Cook them like spinach. They go down better than the roots with my lot, who complain that the latter stain everything red. I'm thus reduced to growing white beetroot.
