AT LAST ... REVENGE IS SWEET  ;D

After bemoaning the arrival of millions of dandelion flowers on the allotments yesterday I came straight home and Googled 'dandelion recipes'.

Found this one courtesy of learningherbs.com! They appear to be dandelion fetishists though  ::) The closing statement on the recipe page says:

"Once you've fallen in love with the flowers, consider seeking out further information and enjoy blowing her white seeds and making your wishes, knowing that you're spreading seeds of health throughout your neighbourhood"

Not sure what my allotment neighbours would have to say about that. Although I do appreciate the healing and health properties dandelions have.

DANDELION FRITTERS (THE ABRIDGED VERSION .. THE ORIGINAL WENT ON A BIT!)

Gather dandelion flowers (obviously) in full sunshine as soon as possible before cooking them

Bring your basket of flowers inside and find a bowl (!!!)

Make batter: 1 egg, 1 cup milk, 1 cup of flour

Add a bit of maple syrup or honey if you want them sweet, or add mixed savory herbs to batter and dip in mustard.

Dip flowers in batter and fry in gently warmed olive oil over a medium heat. Not deep fried ... flip over when browned on one side.

Isn't it a nice thought  ;D FRYING the little b****rs  ;D

My neighbour Dario also gave me a nice recipe for the young leaves: Soak first to remove bitterness. Fry with bits of bacon and add black pepper, white wine and cream. Blooming lovely  ;D

my mother used to make me eat dandelion leaves (and cooked nettles) when i was a child as they are full of iron and good for anee...ann...anemia...anemeaea. iron deficiency.

my first job when i arrive at my plot at the moment is to pick all the dandelion flowers before they go to seed.
