I do envy you, Ceri.  I'd love to have hens but no can do!
However I am having something you are familiar with I think - scaffolding!! For a whole year  :(  Building is being re-roof, reclad, wall cavities insulated etc.  I'm on the ground so I've got it first and will have it last! Hey ho the workmen are very nice .... ....

So needless to say I'll be spending even more time at the lottie this summer
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.

good for u ceri my mum useed tokeep lots but only has a few crazy geese now . but her influence rubbed off on my cousin and now its rubbing off on me . hope to get into them myself soon ( rare breeds i hope )

Wicker - perfect opportunity.  When scaffold is finally struck, make scaffolders lots and lots of cups of tea, smile sweetly, make conversation along the lines of "gosh you must be strong to lift such heavy boards..... I've been desparately searching for some boards just like that - I need x number for my allotment and I have no idea where to get them from, even old cracked ones would do......."  With an even bigger smile from you they might even drop some off at the lottie on their way past.  Trust me - scaffolders are simple folk at heart - go for it.

Cautionary tale!  I knew peeps who kept bantum cockerels and hens.  The best cockerel was Belgium and had the most gorgeous plumage you can imagine but he could not crow!  I taught him how to crow and was persona non grata from that day until he snuffed it!  If your bantum cockerel can't crow, leave him in his ignorant bliss!  :D

Luckily I'm not getting a thingyerel - don't want to breed chickens just yet - just eat their eggs.  I'm fascinated though - how do you teach a thingy to crow???

Muddy_Boots

Tee hee, is easy, just do a good rendition of C**k a doodle doo!  :D
