Hi I went into a brand new garden centre a few days ago and saw Tomato plants about 26/28 inches high in a 8 inch pot with a trellis attached, it had small green tomatoes on, just  starting to colour up and  quite a few too.  Oh this will be good I thought, just one to tide me over.....Not.. £29 .99

Can you believe it, I wonder how many they sell XX Jeannine

With a trellis attached, it should have a greenhouse attached for that price  ;D ;D

Where did you see these, if their is a brand new garden centre in the area I would like to know. By the sounds of it I may need to re-mortgage to visit though.

Woodmansey, towards Beverley on the old road, go past the one opposite Thearne Lane, you know the one with all the greenhouses, about 1 mile beyond on the left. They sell spas, pork chops, garden furniture , expensive wellies , tomato plants and of course some proper garden stuff. I won't go again, I bought a packet of parsley and some liquorice !!! Have you been to the one a little further on over Plaxton Bridge on the left hand side only opened last October time. Cannot remember what it is call (the firm my uncle works for built it), you need a platinum card to be able to afford anything.

My local garden centre, which is more like a upmarket department store had a large Photina cv Red Robin for £1400.00 for sale this week. I never buy anything from them just go in for a laugh.

It`s ridiculous-folk will go to a GC and happily pay up to a pound for some poor little tom that should be confined to the compost heap and yet think that just because I sell from my house 55p for a quality plant +my time explaining how to grow and advice on varieties is expensive ???

I know what you mean Cleo, this is why I never sell mine now.

But worse still is when you sell them and they I say 'I don't bring money down the plot with me' (which I respect) and say they will square up next time they are down.

I'm still waiting for quite a few  >:(
