Cold, but inbetween snow showers, sleet and hail, the sun shines!

- I can't remember this guys name - I know it as 'Jews Mallow'.  Like forsythia but masses of little yellow pompoms from ground to over 7 foot tall.

- Lovely daffs

- I love pansys.  To me they are like panda bears looking at me. :)

- Pulmanaria or Lungwort.  A good ground cover for deep shade, plus variagated foliage and these by-colour flowers, from white to blue to pink to mauve.

- I grow a lot of primulas as they like the wet winter ground in my garden.  These 2 clumps really do need splitting up, but not whilst they are in such lovely flower.

- Photinia Red Robin.  See how much red new growth there is already, and spring doesn't spring until tomorrow!

- Mahonia.  Not the tall type, but the low growing spreading variety.  Amazing scent at this time of year.  I just love the thick green shiny foliage!

- more lovely daffs.

- Yellow flag iris berries.  The birds will finish them soon.

- guess what....? :)

- Berginia or elephants ears.  These flower for almost 12 months of the year.  The slugs and snails have unfortunately taken a shine to the foliage.

- My astilbes are bursting forth.  I dug them out of the garden and planted them in barrels as they hate the dry clay in the garden in the summer.  These barrels hold water (or whisky originally) and they are thriving.

- I brought this little acer for my love for his birthday last year.  Not only fab autumn colour, but fab spring buds!

Emma. Lovely, lovely. I love the Photinia Red Robin and the primulas. In fact as I have viewed them more than once I have been saying to myself "Oh...I like that!!" Thank you for naming them all.

Lovely pics  :) This is our first year with a garden having lived in flats previously,  and  have just realised we have the Irises with berries as in the pics !! I love Irises so am v chuffed will they flower all on their own or do I need to do anything with them??  Any help much appreciated - soooo glad they're not lillies  :D

Irises should flower on their own.

What's the matter with lillies?  I love them.  :)

Nothing at all the matter with lillies, just had beds and beds of them in the communal gardens in our flat so would be such a treat to have irises  :) And glad they will flower on their own  ;D

Really enjoyed your pics, Emma Jane. Great planning on your part to have so much colour this time of the year. I'm trying to achieve something like that with flowers/foliage providing some colour all year - so please keep posting and inspiring me.  :)
(Incidentally your beautiful mahonia is streets ahead of mine - so lovely!)
