Homebase had some fruit trees at £9-99. Good sized trees my damson was about 7 foot tall. I planted it on Saturday and despite the height it was a bit lacking in the root department. Anyone else buy any? How did the roots look?
I think mine will be ok I've had other plants look worse and grow well what was there looked healthy.

Bought a plum from Homebase a couple of years ago, that has survived and is growing reasonably well, and have bought another this year which looks ok. Bought 2 peach trees from Wilkos last year, one survived, one didn't, but the one that didn't had awfully chopped roots. If your damson doesn't produce new roots and just dies, don't be afraid to take the dead tree back to Homebase for a refund.
To be honest, the best trees I have had, have been from places like Buckingham Nurseries, keepers Nurseries and Marshalls, all of which were very sturdy looking with an excellent root structure, well worth the extra money.
Best of luck!

Hi, I bought two apple trees from Homebase in January. They are both just starting to show signes of coming into bud so it seems they will be OK though I wasn't too sure of one of them at the time.

I blame you, Kea!
I went to Homebase this morning to pick up some lightbulbs (now my nice indie electricals shop on the high street has closed down  >:()

When I reached home, I found that a six-foot-tall Morello cherry tree had somehow got into the back of the car.

;D

triffid you should have gone on the motorbike. I bet the tree wouldn't have got on the pillion ;D ;D

Don't you believe it!   ;D
Bags of compost, an 18-inch-wide blue-glazed flowerpot, diving bottles, a picture scanner, supers (bee-boxes) of honey... just a random selection of things that have ridden pillion in their time.  ::)

I remember when I used to carry things like that on mine. Now I ride cruisers NOTHING goes on them :D ;D

Well I'll never know if my damson grows i think I'll go back to NZ just in case Triffids cherry doesn't grow :-\
Or i could wait awhile and watch out for people on motorbikes.
Actually it won't be my fault i wasn't there saying 'go on buy it' you did that all by yourself!

Yep, ok, I admit it: I have no one to blame but myself.  ;D
But it is a beautiful little tree. Now I have to canvas opinion from OH as to whether it goes to the lottie (possible cherry-scrumpers) or whether we find a space for it in the back garden. At least the only thieves we get there are the feathered kind. ;)
