Allotments 4 All

Hello there friends, can anyone help me??  Last year my two hollyhocks were getting to be a decent size then all of a sudden i started to notice that the leaves were goinng a yellowly/brown kind of freckly colour when i looked underneath there was little brown lumps there and basically my hollyhocks are about 3" tall now and i've just found a green bug in some web rolled up in the leaves..... HELP!!!!

sorry, david, don't grow hollyhocks myself, someone'll be along in a mo..I have a similar problem, don't know if it's the same bug, on a calamondin orange tree..rolled up like a cocoon in the leaves so I'll be watching this spot  :)

Sounds like you have Hollyhock rust!

This is quite common and is one of the reasons some people treat hollyhock as an annual.

As for the grub squash it, and wash the leaf with warm water to remove the webbing. Might save the leaf?

If your talking about the leaf with the grub in, it should unravel and the sun will encourage the green to come back.
If leaves are lower you can cut them off and dispose of them in a bin not compost bin and as

Routine spraying with a recommended fungicide will help to keep this problem at bay. and mulch which will encourage growth.
I am no expert I only have one plant. Good luck
