What a fantastic list! Do you manage to eat them all??? I am a fan of Pink Banana and Musque de Provence - is Musquee de Provence (lower on your list) different from Musque?

Sibley Squash
Queensland Blue

i have a couple of each going spare and cant think of a better collection to add them to
PM if interested

If you could plant only one which one would you grow?

That is an amazing list, you must have a lot of room to grow them!

I was going to say that too, how much room do you need to grow all these lovelies? :o

If I planted only one I would grow  the Delicata type 'Sugar Loaf.

I don't plant eveyone every year of course,but I have  2 full dized lotties and use 1/2 of one for my Pumpkin Patch. I have a few on here that I bought this year and have not grown before also.

Thank you for the offer of the two new ones,I did have Queensland Blue but all gone so that would be great and the Sibley would be smashing too.I will Pm you.

Jeannine I found some Jack be Little seeds today at Van Hages for 50p (raaay!) but put them back because they were a year old (booo).

Are squash seeds still reliable in their second year? If yes, I'll get back up there and buy them.

Yes go back and get them QUICK. I planted some 1988 seeds this year of a squash and got pretty good germination,I think 6/7 out of 10. I keep mine in the fridge in a sealed case.I doubt if you will have any trouble with last years at all,not with squash.

Truly wonderful collection.

Would any of these grow in pots, my plot is pretty small so dont have any room?

I would love to try some new ones and shall be giving Cobnut (Butternut) a try.

Last year i grew courgetts in pots and they worked a treat.

Truth is, I live in a very basic small house with minature gardens back and front.Without the lotties I would be a basket case.

Squash house...mmm... has to be a joke there somewhere. Bird house Gourd maybe.

The beauty about seed collecting is .1. It is cheap. 2. Doesn't take up much room.   3. It is always a thrill so get another one.
I am just as bad with my toms and my melons. Beans are getting a bit interesting too.

I wonder of anyone out there has a cabbage collection.

Amazing co0llection, jeannine.  I think I could easily develop a similar addiction unfortunately I just don't have the space.

Now that is a Squash Collection to envy!

Chris, many  of the vining ones will grow vertical like beans if you pick the smaller sized ones and  Cougettes(zuchinni) will make it in a big pot as almost all are bush plants.There is now a bush version of my favourite Sugar Loaf  but I haven't grown it yet,the seeds are en route so I may get a chance for thisd year yet. There are several variety of Butternut  some are bigger than others but I think most would grow vertical with a trellis behind.Water well and be prepared to fertilise.

Wow really impressive - do send us some picture when they all start fruiting or invite us to an an open allotment viewing. 

Am very interested to hear about your melon collection as I have not had much success with these...

Flossie, truthfully I don't get the melons that I used to when In BC Canada but if I give them the space and the heat I usually can get most of them to come on,it is always a race against time with them maturing though, and water melons are the most difficult, but I love the challenge.Under glass they do need to be hand pollinated though. There are several that  grow here well. You need to pick one that is short season. Don't overcrowd them.If you can grow good indoor cukes you should be Ok with short season melons. Can you tell me what kind you tried with.

I have shared my melon seeds with other folks with mixed results.

I find it frustrating that I don't have all the greenhouse space I would like to play with them more. I have one melon house ,well they share it with a grape but I tend to overcrowd them too. I grew about 8 or 9 varieties last year and got fruit from all but 2, but I felt they deserved more time than I gave them.

It is funny you should mention this one as I have never grown it before this year,the germination has been poor compared to the others and it is growing at a slower rate,I have no idea why.It is sold here in the Uk so one would suppose it should go.

In my melon book(Melons for the passionate grower) it is described as a must have,It is not much to look at and seems hard on the outside. It is from the Ukraine. I shall be watching this one myself very carefully.

Sweetheart may be a better one to have a go with.

Hero of Lockinge is an English bred melon that I have had good success with but you cannot buy it any longer in the Uk,it is not on the approved EU list. Would you believe I got my seeds from Texas!! Isn't that silly.

I feel sure there are folks here who could help you much more than I can with melons for England.Actually I would very much welcome the help myself.

There is a Eurpoean  theory here that you pinch out the growing tips of melons and squash. and  m,any people have told me that they do that with them all.I personally do not as I think it creates more problems that it solves. It is  however possibly a good idea for  melons grown under glass so I might try it this year but for me it is a real no no for squash in the open for me.
